I have two pets that named themselves by way of hijinx and tomfoolery...a vizla hound mutt named Minnesota Pops McFatsaroni Penguin Soysauce ZigZag Sticks and a cattle dog healer mutt named Sidney LemonAda Catdoor Puedoweebie. Will have to share the origins elsewhere but really enjoyed your message here Leo. Let us find freedom in our boxes!
I love the pet naming thing, but even more, the constraint thing serves an improv problem my team has been having without having had the words to articulate it. Thank you, glad to find you!
The heat of a blow torch is only generated when you reduce — constrain — the oxygen flow. Otherwise the flame is limp. Good writing and good communication work just the same way. I am nevertheless still waiting for the fish in my aquarium to name themselves.
The fish will name themselves, though you have to first select the fictional universe. I guarantee the selected name won’t be something boring like “Nemo”.
OK, this is great. The constraint I gave the aquarium last night is this: a dance club – inspired by the way the water casts shimmers with the light. As such, the fire fish revealed itself to be “Flamer.” The two clown fish, as orange as Brox candies, informed me they are “The Lozenges.” So, now, every time I look at the disco, I see Flamer and The Lozenges in their psychedelically spectacular outfits doing their adorable dances. Constraints. Who knew? Thank you.
Wow, love this idea for naming your pets in general. The connection back to your main point was spot on. "By introducing constraints, decisions paradoxically become more creative." Yes! This is a lesson I am always relearning. Great piece Leo!

And you my friend CansaFis... you could write a book on Names (!)

Love the blow torch metaphor Cory!
